Vol. 226 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Port Meat Berth.

23.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if his attention has been directed to the lack of a proper meat berth in the Port of Dublin which is threatening the future of the £9 million boneless meat trade to America; if in view of the importance and the urgency of providing these facilities he will take steps to remedy this position; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The question of improving the facilities at Dublin Port for the loading of meat for the American market has been the subject of approaches by the Irish Fresh Meat Exporters' Society and my Department to the Port & Docks Board. which is the authority responsible for these facilities.

The matter is still the subject of consultation with the Board and I hope that it may be possible to secure that adequate improvements will now be made as speedily as possible.
