Vol. 226 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Installation of Milk Coolers.

28.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will subsidise the installation of ice bank type coolers by dairy farmers; and if preference will be given to farmers with valuations of £30 and less.

I am at present considering representations made to me in this matter by the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association but I may say that I am not yet convinced of the necessity for a subsidy or grant.

Special credit facilities for the purchase of milk coolers have already been made available, through the Agricultural Credit Corporation, both direct to milk producers and to co-operative creamery societies on their behalf. Also, producers have the benefit of the allowance of 1d. per gallon payable under the Creamery Milk Quality Grading Scheme and this allowance will become 2d per gallon as from 1st April next.
