asked the Minister for Labour the number of registered unemployed at present in Tullamore, Birr, Edenderry, Portlaoise and Portarlington; and what steps he has in mind with a view to providing work for all those who are at present registered for employment with his Department in these towns.

The numbers of registered unemployed in the week ended 3rd February, 1967, in the towns mentioned were: Tullamore, 83; Birr, 136; Edenderry, 82; Portlaoise, 94; and Portarlington, 63.

The task of the Employment Service is to place persons in touch with jobs that are notified to the employment exchanges.
