Vol. 229 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Road Improvements.

10.

asked the Minister for Local Government what is the present position in regard to the improvement of the roadway at Rathfarnham village, Dublin; and if he can say when widening of this narrow thoroughfare will commence.

The road improvement in question is a matter, in the first instance, for Dublin Corporation, who are the responsible road authority. A compulsory purchase order was made by the corporation for the acquisition of some of the land required for the improvement and submitted for my confirmation on 2nd March, 1967. As a number of objections to the making of the order were received a public local inquiry into the corporation's application was necessary. The local inquiry was held on 7th June, 1967, and a decision on the compulsory purchase order will be made as soon as possible.

11.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware of the bad state of repair of the roadways at the Charleston Road-Belgrave Avenue junction and the Palmerston Road-Belgrave Square-Belgrave Avenue junction, Dublin; whether he has any proposals under consideration to deal with this matter; and whether he will have the repairs dealt with as soon as possible.

12.

asked the Minister for Local Government if in view of the fact that the month of May is now well past he can now give a firm date as to when Belgrave Square East will be resurfaced.

I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 11 and 12 together.

A proposal of Dublin Corporation for the acceptance of a tender for the execution of the work in question was recently approved. It is now a matter for the corporation to complete the formalities for the placing of the contract and to arrange with the contractor for the commencement of the work.
