Vol. 233 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Meath Estate.

10.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission have taken any steps to acquire the Tisdall estate, Charlesfort, Kells, County Meath, as there are over 30 uneconomic holders living near it.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to his previous question on 1st ultimo. There are no proceedings for the acquisition of this property but inquiries are at present being carried out.

Could the Minister give an estimate of how long it will take to have the inquiries concluded?

This matter arose only during the past month. I cannot say how long the inquiries will take. My information is that the proposed sale is not yet completed.

My information is different from the Minister's. However, I grant that he would have better knowledge than I would. But, because of the fact that a number of other farms examined by the Land Commission were sold during the course of the examination before a decision was arrived at, I am anxious that a decision in this case be made as quickly as possible.

It may be true that these lands were sold by private treaty and that they were not advertised. There was no way in which the Land Commission could know about this. The situation is being investigated and whatever has taken place legally has already taken place.

I am aware that the lands were sold by private treaty and I am also aware the Land Commission were notified about numerous other farms which were not sold by private treaty until after the notification and the Land Commission do not seem to have completed their investigations yet.
