andMr. L. Belton asked the Minister for Social Welfare the total amount in contributions paid in respect of social insurance by (a) employers and (b) employees in 1956-57; and the corresponding amounts for 1968-69.
Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Social Insurance Contributions.
The information requested is as follows:— 1956-57: Employers £2,972,978; employees £2,590,229. 1968-69: Employers £15,526,000; employees £12,319,000.
Figures for 1968-69 are provisional and, in the case of employers, include contributions towards occupational injuries insurance.
Has the Minister readily available the amount paid by the State? I know he was not asked that.
Not only was I not asked it but I have not got it here. If the Deputy puts down another question I will be only too pleased to give that information.
It is almost the same as the other two in 1956-57.
What?
It has not increased to the same extent.
It has. It is approximately 40 per cent.
The Government stopped paying their share a few years ago. They stopped paying their additional share.
That is completely contrary to the facts.
We will see when the question is put down.
Put down another question.
