Vol. 249 No. 9

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Gas and Electricity Inspection.

56.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce why ESB units and gas therms are not subject to inspection by inspectors of weights and measures in order to ensure that the public get the full amount to which they are entitled; and if there are defects because of lack of inspection what course is open for the protection of the public.

The quality, pressure and quantity of gas supplied to consumers are, in fact, regulated and inspected by the local authorities concerned, in conjunction with the weights and measures office of my Department under various Gas Acts and Weights and Measures Acts.

Electricity meters are specifically excluded from the measuring instruments which the 1928 Weights and Measures Act covers and come within the ambit of the Minister for Transport and Power.
