Vol. 255 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Garda Squad for Public Disorder.

114.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he will set up a special Garda squad effectively trained to deal with disorderly public protests or demonstrations.

The best method of allocating Garda manpower for particular tasks is a matter for the professional judgment of experienced police officers. I am informed by the commissioner that he does not consider it necessary or useful to adopt an arrangement on the lines suggested in the question.

Is it not true that a group of Army personnel received anti-riot training in Templemore?

This appears to be a separate question.

That is a matter for the Minister for Defence. I have no information on that point. It does not arise from this question at all.
