Vol. 255 No. 19

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Use of Arable Land.

19.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that arable land is being used for planting by the forestry section of his Department; and if he will have the matter investigated.

Arable land is not normally acquired by the forest and wildlife service of my Department and all land acquired is carefully examined by Land Commission inspectors in order to ensure that the land is not required for Land Commission purposes.

If the Deputy has a particular case in mind perhaps he would let me have the details and I will look into the matter.

Surely the Minister is aware that is not the case. If he investigates he will find a number of complaints from the people concerned, particularly those in congested areas, because arable land is being used by the Forestry Branch of his Department? I will submit a number of cases to the Minister.

I will be glad to examine them.
