I have not received from Dublin Corporation an estimate of the total number of dwellings which they expect to complete in 1971. 801 new dwellings were completed by them in the first six months of 1971. At the 30th June, 1971, the corporation's housing programme comprised a total of 21,005 dwellings to be built, or sites to be developed. In their weekly tenancy programme at that date they had work in progress on 1,606 dwellings; 6,031 dwellings were at planning stage; and sites had been or were being acquired for a further 9,198 dwellings. In their purchase houses/private sites programme 317 dwellings were in course of construction or ready to be started, plans were being prepared for 1,133 dwellings on private sites, and 2,720 sites had been or were being acquired.
On the above basis and taking into account normal vacancies in the corporation's existing housing estate it may reasonably be anticipated that the total of dwellings becoming available to Dublin Corporation for letting during 1971 will enable them to rehouse in the current year considerably more than half of the families on the approved waiting list as revised in November, 1970.
