Vol. 260 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Benefit Appeals.

23.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if workers who were denied unemployment benefit for Saturday, 15th April, 1972, have had their appeals heard; and when a decision will be given on these appeals.

Appeals have not so far been heard in any cases of the kind referred to—presumably those arising from the recent dispute in the ESB. Arrangements were made to hold an appeal hearing in one test case in Dublin on Monday the 8th instant but the appellant did not attend for the hearing. Although he was duly notified of the arrangements, no explanation has so far been received in my Department regarding his non-attendance and inquiries in this regard are at present being made. A decision in a similar test case in Cork is now on appeal and arrangements are being made for a local hearing in this case.

When will that take place?

I cannot say but I imagine it will be one of these days, probably in the immediate future.
