Vol. 260 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Income Statistics.

34.

asked the Minister for Finance the total number of persons with incomes in excess of £1,600, £2,000, £3,000, £4,000,£5,000,£6,000, £7,000, £8,000, £9,000, £10,000, £15,000 and £20,000 per annum.

As the reply includes a tabular statement I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to have it circulated with the Official Report.

It is presumed that the Deputy refers to income that has been assessed to income tax, including sur-tax. Statistics relating to income taxation are not complied in such a manner as would enable all the information sought to be supplied. The Deputy's attention is, however, invited to Table 85 on page 164 of the annual report of the Revenue Commissioners for the year ended March 31st, 1971, which contains the following particulars:

The table includes persons in the stated income ranges only where the total income was assessed to sur-tax for the year 1970-71. It does not include persons whose total income exceeded £2,500 but who because of personal allowances were not liable to sur-tax.
