Vol. 262 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Louth Harbour Improvements.

20.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will consider a scheme for harbour improvement at Port Oriel, Clogherhead; if Louth County Council has prepared and forwarded such a scheme to him or, alternatively, if similar schemes for comparable fishing harbours have been carried out and financed by his Department in co-operation with the Office of Public Works.

The maintenance of Port Oriel Pier, Clogherhead is the responsibility of the Louth County Council. The council has submitted to my Department reports by its consulting engineer about the repair and reconstruction of the pier which suffered storm damage. Those reports are being examined in consultation with the Office of Public Works and at this stage, I cannot yet say what the outcome may be.

In regard to the final part of the Deputy's question, I cannot recall a comparable case.
