Vol. 270 No. 4

Written Answers. - Geese Population.

504.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the annual census shows that there has been a large increase in greylags and pinkfeet geese in the United Kingdom in 1972-73 and that the population of the former has almost doubled since 1960; and if there has been a similar experience in Ireland and, if not, why.

Cavan): The position is as stated in the first part of the question. The increase in greylag geese has not been reflected in Ireland due to a preference for the feeding conditions that obtain in Scotland. Pink-feet geese do not normally occur here.
