Vol. 270 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Noxious Weeds Legislation.

5.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he is satisfied that legislation in respect of noxious weeds is being applied in full.

The enforcement of the Noxious Weeds Act, 1936, is carried out by the Garda Síochána and I am satisfied that they are performing their duties as effectively as possible.

Can the Minister say how many prosecutions were instituted in, say, a convenient 12-month period?

That seems to be a separate question.

The number is approximately ten per year.

There are a lot of weeds in this House that might be eliminated.
