Vol. 271 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Environmental Activities.

84.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will ensure that the UN General Assembly will clarify and specify more precisely than was done at the Conference on Human Environment the respective environmental responsibilities of new and existing agencies carrying out environmental activities.

Subsequent to the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment of June, 1972, the General Assembly of the United Nations by Resolution 2997 (XXVII) of 15th December, 1972, established institutions designed to ensure co-operation and co-ordination among all bodies concerned in the implementation of environmental programmes. This framework will be reviewed at the General Assembly session due in the autumn of 1976. Ireland will support any measures to improve the existing arrangements which may prove desirable.
