Vol. 349 No. 1

Written Answers. - Consumer Affairs Office.

412.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism if he is satisfied with the performance of the office of Consumer Affairs.

Under section 9 (5) of the Consumer Information Act, 1978, the Director of Consumer Affairs is independent in the performance of his functions. Accordingly, it is neither my right not my wish to interfere in the manner in which either he or his office carries out these functions.

Under section 9 (12) (a) of the same Act, the director is required each year to make a report in relation to the performance of his functions in the preceding year and copies of such reports have been laid before each House of the Oireachtas. On the basis of these reports, I am satisfied with the performance of the Director of Consumer Affairs.
