Vol. 354 No. 12

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

273.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if his Department will now approve an unemployment assistance appeal from a person (details supplied) in County Laois.

The unemployment assistance claim of the person concerned was disallowed on the grounds that he failed to disclose his means to the social welfare officer. He appealed against the disallowance on 24 April 1984 but due to misfiling his case was not dealt with until 14 August 1984 when the case was returned to the social welfare officer to afford the applicant a further opportunity to cooperate. Inquiries are still being made and when they are completed his entitlement to unemployment assistance will be reviewed accordingly. He is at present in receipt of supplementary welfare allowance pending the outcome of his unemployment assistance claim.
