Vol. 356 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Cork School Transport.

325.

Mr. G. Walsh

asked the Minister for Education if she will provide school transport for the pupils of Schull community college, County Cork, as that school is their nearest post-primary centre; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The post-primary school transport scheme makes provision for the establishment of school transport services, under certain conditions, to facilitate the attendance of eligible pupils at the post-primary centre of the catchment area in which they reside. This centre is usually, but not necessarily, the nearest to a pupil's home. My Department has provided school transport facilities to Schull post-primary centre in accordance with the terms of the post-primary school transport scheme. I do not propose to authorise any school transport service outside the terms of the scheme.
