The results of the 1984 labour force survey will become available within the next couple of months.

A special age analysis of the live register is carried out quarterly, in January, April, July and October. The results of this analysis show some 23,688 persons aged 16-20 on the live register in April 1983; the corresponding figure in October 1984 was 28,248. Information from the analysis for January 1985 will be available shortly. In order to receive unemployment benefit a claimant must satisfy the necessary contribution conditions; while in the case of unemployment assistance an applicant must satisfy a means test. Persons not satisfying the requirements of the regulations are effectively excluded from the live register.
