Vol. 356 No. 10

Written Answers. - Tax Refund.

553.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason for the delay in having a tax refund made to a person (details supplied) in County Waterford.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer ceased employment on 1 May 1984 and has been in receipt of a retirement pension from his former employer since that date. Tax under PAYE had been deducted from his earnings up to the date of his retirement. Periodic refunds of tax should have been made by his former employer, when the pension payments were being made but this was not done.

The inspector has now communicated with the payer of the pension in the matter and I understand that the total tax deducted from the taxpayer's earnings for the current year, 1984-85, will be refunded when his next pension payment is being made.
