Vol. 359 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Tipperary School.

717.

asked the Minister for Education the reason the admission of pupils to Rathkeevin national school, Clonmel, County Tipperary, is being restricted for the coming year; the reason new pupils of families which have attended the school for years are not being accepted; and if the present number of three teachers in this school could be increased to four to accommodate the increase in demand in pupils who wish to attend this school.

Because many of the pupils enrolled in the school live nearer to other schools in which they can be accommodated, the provision of an additional teacher and an extra classroom to accommodate them in Rathkeevin national school would not be warranted. On the advice of my Department, the board of management of the school have formulated a policy of enrolment which will control pupil intake so as to ensure that enrolments will be reduced to the numbers appropriate to three teachers.
