Vol. 363 No. 4

Written Answers. - Badger Baiting.

21.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if his attention has been drawn to an article (details supplied) in connection with badger baiting; and if he intends taking any action in relation to the matters outlined therein, purely in the context of the fines and penalties of engaging in this gruesome behaviour.

I have seen the article referred to. Badger baiting is an offence under the Protection of Animals Acts and under the Wildlife Act, 1976, and I am consulting the Ministers concerned about the possible revision of the penalties at present applying to the offence.
