Vol. 364 No. 4

Written Answers. - Garda Search Procedure.

19.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will comment on the manner in which a raid (details supplied) was conducted in County Sligo on Saturday, 15 February, at 7.45 a.m.; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that searches of the premises referred to by the Deputy were carried out by members of the force on 15 February 1986 and that, prior to the searches, the search warrants, which had been issued under section 29 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939, were produced by the member in charge of the search party and read over to those present in the premises.

I am also informed that every cooperation was extended to the members engaged in the searches and that prior to leaving the premises the gardaí asked the owners of the premises if they had any complaint to make regarding the searches and were told that they had not.
