asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will investigate the claim by a person (details supplied) in County Cork for entitlement to an award under the Superannuation Acts and the assertion by the relevant Government Department that his employment as a casual ship inspector was on a daily basis, whereas he was clearly told otherwise at the time of his appointment; and if he will agree in these circumstances to have this particular case reviewed with a view to granting him the appropriate award.
Written Answers. - Superannuation Award.
20.
This person was engaged by letter dated 8 March 1977 as a casual ship inspector on the basis that his employment would be on a daily basis as and when required. On his retirement he was informed that a superannuation award could not be made to him because he did not have the necessary minimum period of paid service prescribed to qualify for an award under the non-contributory pension scheme for non-established State employees.
I have had the case reviewed and, having regard to his employment record, the requisite approval has been obtained to make a superannuation award in this case. My Department will convey details of the award to him shortly.
