Vol. 395 No. 9

Written Answers. - Environmentally Sensitive Areas Scheme.

Liam Hyland

Question:

132 Mr. Hyland asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will give consideration to a submission from Laois County Council requesting the designation of the Slieve Bloom and Rossmore areas of County Laois as environmentally sensitive under EC Council Regulations 797/85.

The necessary steps are being taken in my Department towards the introduction of a suitable scheme for environmentally sensitive areas in accordance with the criteria set out in EC Regulation 797/85. These arrangements will involve the examination of suitable areas for inclusion in the scheme and in this context I will give full consideration to the question of the designation of the Slieve Bloom and Rossmore areas.
