Vol. 396 No. 3

Written Answers. - Dublin Zoo.

Roger T. Garland

Question:

140 Mr. Garland asked the Minister for Labour if he was invited to meet the director of Dublin Zoo recently; if he discussed the crisis which is currently gripping that institution; if any moneys will be forthcoming from Government sources before the results of the inquiry are made known; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have had no formal contact recently with the director of Dublin Zoo.

I understand there is a Government-appointed committee set up to advise on the future operation of the zoo. It operates under the aegis of Mrs. Mary O'Rourke TD, Minister for Education, and the question of State aid will be considered when the findings of this committee are made known.

FÁS have been and continue to be involved in training programmes of direct benefit to the zoo. CERT also have provided advice and technical assistance to the zoo executive.
