Vol. 399 No. 4

Written Answers. - Sale of Cablelink Shares.

Toddy O'Sullivan

Question:

16 Mr. T. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Communications whether RTE will be allowed to retain the proceeds of the sale of shares in Cablelink; if he will give an assurance that RTE will not be financially weakened as a result of this sale; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

It is a matter for the RTE Authority to decide how to utilise the proceeds of the sale of part of RTE's share in Cablelink. However, the chairmen's statement in RTE's draft accounts for 1989 is of interest:

The proceeds to RTE from the 40% sale will be used to repay fully the balance of the Exchequer Loans, to fund ongoing capital expenditure and to meet RTE's share of the major investment programme planned for Cablelink.
