Question:

90 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for the Environment the name and population of towns which have town commission status; the complement of clerks or secretaries in each case; their status, whether full-time or part-time; the salary scales applicable; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Note: In each town there is a part-time town clerk. In the majority of these towns the duties of part-time town clerk are carried out by an officer of the county council with an allowance or ex-gratia sum being paid in respect of these duties. Where a part-time town clerk is employed by the town commissioners the salaries range from £3,000 to £5,700 p.a.
