Vol. 409 No. 9

Written Answers. - Superannuation Award Appeal.

Enda Kenny

Question:

98 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Environment if an increase can be granted in a pension payable by his Department to a person (details supplied) in County Mayo.

The superannuation of a local authority employee is a matter for the local authority in the first instance in accordance with the provisions of the local government superannuation code. If an employee is aggrieved by the amount of the superannuation award granted to him by a local authority he may appeal to the Minister to have the matter reviewed.

The person referred to by the Deputy has appealed on this basis and my Department are investigating his case in correspondence with his employing local authority, Mayo County Council. The investigation will be completed shortly.
