Vol. 410 No. 2

Written Answers. - Listellick (Kerry) School Staffing.

Dick Spring

Question:

205 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Education if she will sanction the appointment of an additional teacher at Listellick national school, County Kerry as the numbers in the school now warrant such action.

As the Deputy will be aware, there is an agreement between the Government and the INTO regarding the staffing of national schools. The staffing for a particular year is determined by the enrolment in the school on 30 September of the previous year.

This school had an enrolment of 269 pupils on 30 September 1990. The authorised staffing of the school for the 1991-92 school year warranted by that enrolment is principal and eight assistants. This represents an increase of one assistant teacher over the staffing level for the 1990-1991 school year. My department have recently sanctioned an additional teaching post at the school.
