Question:131 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Justice the number of Protestant gardaí, if any, of officer rank or higher currently in the Garda Síochána.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that, at present, there are no Protestants at superintendent or higher rank in the Garda Síochána. Religious affiliation is not a factor in the selection of members of the force for promotion.
