Vol. 410 No. 6

Written Answers. - Swords (Dublin) Psychiatric Service.

Seán Ryan

Question:

140 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for Health the plans he has to relocate the psychiatric service, which was originally located in the Swords Health Centre, back into the community in Swords as the current arrangements at St. Ita's Hospital, Portrane, County Dublin is totally unsatisfactory for the people who have to travel long distances with inadequate public transport.

As part of its plans for the development of community psychiatric services, the Eastern Health Board has proposals to provide a mental health centre at Swords. In the interim, the board considers that the most satisfactory arrangement for patients is to provide out-patient services at a house in the grounds of St. Ita's Hospital given the unsatisfactory accommodation available in Swords.
