Vol. 415 No. 3

Written Answers. - Responsibility Allowances.

John V. Farrelly

Question:

173 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Education if it is possible for vocational teachers to take a break from their post of responsibility duties with or without payment of the appropriate allowance while at the same time fulfilling their teaching duties; and if so, the reason for this.

Payment of responsibility allowances is linked generally to the performance of specific duties other than normal teaching duties. While the Department would have no objection to a post-holder relinquishing the duties attaching to his/her post of responsibility, it follows that payment of the allowance would cease.

The question of the payment of the appropriate allowance to a replacement post-holder or of the original post-holder resuming his post of responsibility, would be considered in the circumstances of each individual case.
