Vol. 415 No. 5

Ceisteanna — Questions Written Answers. - RTE Advertising Revenue.

Ivor Callely

Question:

46 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if he will outline the advertising revenue raised by RTE in 1991; whether this was in line with the cap placed on advertising by the Broadcasting Act, 1990.

Under section 3 (2) of the Broadcasting Act, 1990, the limit on revenue which RTE could derive from advertising, sponsorship, or other forms of commercial promotions in broadcasts in 1991 is calculated to be £48.4 million. Informally, I understand from RTE that an estimate of the revenue so derived in 1991 is £56.3 million.

Section 3 (4) of the Broadcasting Act, 1990, sets out the procedure in the event of revenue from advertising, sponsorship or other forms of commercial promotion in broadcasts exceeding the set limit in any year.
