Vol. 420 No. 3

Written Answers. - International Agencies Jobs.

Séamus Cullimore

Question:

140 Mr. Cullimore asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he intends to advertise publicly all jobs relating to international agencies as soon as they become available.

As the Deputy may be aware from a reply given on the topic of vacancies in international organisations to Deputy Higgins on 11 December last, primary responsibility for this matter rests with the Minister for Finance, whose Department circulates notices received of vacancies in international organisations. These notices are circulated by that Department to the main FÁS offices, to the universities, to the semi-state organisations, to the Health Boards and within the civil service.

In addition every month the Department of Foreign Affairs circulates to interested parties in a document called "The Abstract of Technical Assistance" a list of current technical vacancies in international organisations. Circulation of this document varies from 250 to 500 and any individual who wishes to be included in its circulation may do so by contacting the Development Co-operation Division of the Department of Foreign Affairs.
It is considered that the circulation by the Departments of Finance and Foreign Affairs outlined above is adequate to ensure the vacancy notices are brought to the attention of those most likely to be interested and qualified to apply. In the circumstances, it is felt that the high cost of publicly advertising the vacancy notices would not be warranted.
