Vol. 434 No. 4

Written Answers. - Third Level Education.

John O'Leary

Question:

196 Mr. O'Leary asked the Minister for Education the estimated cost to her Department of a free-for-all third level educational system.

I take it that by "free-for-all" the Deputy is referring to the abolition of third level tuition fees.

When the estimated grant assistance for fees in 1994, is taken into account, under the various third level student support schemes, as well as ESF-aided courses, the approximate additional cost to my Department of the abolition of tuition fees at third level would be in the region of £45 million.
