Vol. 439 No. 5

Written Answers. - Second-Level School Places.

Ivor Callely

Question:

230 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the difficulty that can be experienced in obtaining placement for students in second-level schools, particuarly where the student is in excess of the compulsory education age requirement; the consideration, if any, that has been given to this; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

My Department considers that, generally, there are sufficient pupil places available for all pupils seeking places in second-level schools. If the Deputy is aware of a particular instance where students have had difficulties in obtaining a place I would be pleased to have the matter investigated fully by my Department.
