Vol. 439 No. 5

Written Answers. - Knocklyon (Dublin) Community School.

Alan Shatter

Question:

63 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Education whether she will sanction the construction of Knocklyon community school in 1994; and the funds, if any, provided by the Government for the building of the school in 1994.

Liz O'Donnell

Question:

197 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Education if she will sanction the building of the post-primary school in Knocklyon, County Dublin, in view of the additional building provision of £5 million for secondary schools in the budget; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 63 and 197 together.

I have decided that my Department should commission an independent study of the post-primary needs of the Knocklyon-Scholarstown areas from the service industries research centre at UCD. It is intended to have the study completed within four months.

I have taken this decision in view of the protracted history of this particular project, and of the major demographic implications of recent and proposed housing developments for Knocklyon and adjoining areas.

In light of this decision the inclusion of Knocklyon school project in the post-primary building programme for 1994 does not at present arise.
