Vol. 447 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Cable Television Licence.

John Bruton

Question:

263 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the action, if any, he proposes to take regarding a licence which was granted to a company (details supplied) concerning the provision of a cable television service to the Ashbourne area; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that customers complain that cable service in this area is very poor; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3128/94]

I am aware, from a small number of representations, of reception problems in the area concerned from time to time. The licence referred to was transferred to the company concerned in 1990. At that time the cable system was in need of significant upgrading and a total of £230,000 has been invested in the system since then.

The company is currently investigating the possibility of acquiring an improved signal and minimising interference caused by high atmospheric pressure. My Department will be kept informed of progress on these issues.
