190 Kathleen Lynch asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade if his Department is carrying out an inquiry into reports on a Channel 4 "Despatches" programme in January 1995 that electric shock batons commonly used for torture by repressive regimes had been assembled in Ireland; the progress, if any, to date in the inquiry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department is not the appropriate authority for carrying out such an inquiry. However, I understand that steps are being taken by the Department of Justice to investigate reports in the recent Channel 4 "Despatches" programme in relation to the alleged assembly of electric shock batons.
