Vol. 451 No. 5

Written Answers. - Citizenship Application.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

139 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Justice the reason her Department continues to refuse an application for citizenship by a person (details attached) in Dublin 5; the reason she will not alter this decision in view of the fact that she is prepared to review the application in July 1995; the reason for this course of action; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [6878/95]

The person in question came to Ireland in 1983 to study. Most of his period of residence in the State was as a student. The general position is that students are given permission to reside in the State solely to pursue a course of study and on the basis that they will return home on completion of their studies. I will reconsider this application in July of this year when the applicant will have had more time in employment in the State.
