Vol. 462 No. 2

Written Answers. - Consumer Prices.

Pat Upton

Question:

234 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if he has obtained a reply from the Director of Consumer Affairs to his question on the necessity to carry out a survey to establish the extent to which price reductions resulting from depreciation of the punt have been passed on to consumers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4432/96]

Further to my reply to Question No. 232 on 6 February 1996, column 199, volume 461 of the Official Report, the Director of Consumer Affairs is at present undertaking a survey in respect of UK magazines to establish the extent to which price reductions by UK suppliers, resulting from the appreciation of the punt against sterling, have been or are being passed on to consumers.

It is my intention that the findings of the survey shall be made public.
