Vol. 462 No. 6

Written Answers. - Skerries (Dublin) Harbour.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

34 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Marine if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the safety of fishing boats using Skerries, County Dublin, is seriously undermined by the uneven floor of the harbour; and if he will insist that Dublin Port and Docks dredge this area to avoid further damage to keels resulting in shafts being put out of line with gearboxes, causing expensive damage and allowing water to enter the hulls, engines to break down and more fishermen's lives to be endangered. [5171/96]

The maintenance of Skerries Harbour is the responsibility of Dublin Port and Docks Board. I do understand, however, from the board that there is a certain unevenness in the vicinity of the ice-plant at Skerries Harbour.

I have asked Dublin Port to consider whether remedial action is feasible and-or warranted.
