Vol. 467 No. 1

Written Answers. - Navan (Meath) Regional Technical College.

Colm M. Hilliard

Question:

213 Mr. Hilliard asked the Minister for Education the current position regarding the proposal to build a regional technical college at Navan, County Meath. [12545/96]

The Steering Committee on the Future Development of Higher Education was asked to examine "within the overall national context... the needs of higher education on a regional basis...". Following its examination of Dublin and the surrounding counties, the committee recommended Blanchardstown as the appropriate location for the establishment of a new regional technical college to serve the north, north-west and north-east Dublin region as well as growth areas in Meath and Kildare.

I will be giving consideration to the steering committee's recommendations with my colleagues in Government over the next few months.
