My Department will take over the full administration of disabled person's maintenance allowance from October 1996 at which time the scheme will be renamed disability allowance. Preparations for the transfer involving the eight health boards and the Department of Health as well as my own Department are well advanced. I am confident that the transfer process will be successfully accomplished and that the new administrative arrangements will provide an improved service for recipients of the allowance.
