Vol. 467 No. 7

Written Answers. - British Beef Sale.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

344 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry whether he intends taking action against companies who sold British beef with an Irish health mark, thereby misleading the consumer and, in so doing, being in breach of the European Food Directive. [14412/96]

Presumably, the Deputy is referring to recent media reports concerning the alleged dumping of beef falsely labelled as Irish in certain third countries. The position is that the reports have been throughly investigated and appear to be without substance.
