Vol. 467 No. 7

Written Answers. - Proposed Legislation.

Jim Mitchell

Question:

427 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the plans, if any, he has for new legislation in respect of air traffic control and related matters; and the new regulations, if any, planned in this respect. [14260/96]

Under the Irish Aviation Authority Act, 1993 (No. 29 of 1993), the Irish Aviation Authority is statutorily responsible for the provision, operation and management of air navigation services in Irish controlled airspace and for regulating the operation of such services. These functions are carried out in accordance with international standards as set down in the relevant annexes to the Chicago Convention. The authority has the power to make regulations under sections 58, 59 and 60 of the Act in relation to its statutory functions as specified in the Act.

I understand that the authority has no plans to make new regulations or to amend existing regulations in this area at present.
