Vol. 471 No. 7

Written Answers. - Durrus (Cork) School Refurbishment.

Joe Walsh

Question:

237 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Education if she will allocate funds to carry out urgent refurbishment works at St. James's national school, Durrus, County Cork; and if she will provide a comprehensive report on the adequacy of the facilities at this school to cater for its current enrolment numbers. [21510/96]

My Department's technical staff have been asked to report on conditions at St. James's national school, Durrus, County Cork. This report is expected shortly. I am not in a position to comment on the adequacy of the facilities until this report is received.

The question of funding must be considered in the light of existing contractual commitments, and the funding to be made available in 1997. These matters are under consideration at present and I expect that the process will be completed shortly. My Department will be in touch with the school management as soon as possible.
