Smith asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the progress, if any, which has been made by his Department and the State development agencies in assisting the resumption of employment at a company (details supplied) in County Cavan; and if he will make a statement on the matter. In liaison with Forbairt, my Department has been monitoring the position since the closure of this plant.
Forbairt is continuing to use its endeavours with management at the plant to try and secure a re-opening on a viable basis. I understand that, from discussions so far, it is unlikely that the firm will re-open in the immediate future.
The resumption of activities at the plant is ultimately a commercial decision for the company.
